The course is delivered by subject matter experts in hazardous materials, who have spent time as either FRS first responders, hazardous materials instructors and training leads, tactical advisors or sector competent chemists.
We are offering an accredited version of this course, delivered through a programme combined of distance learning and in-person training. The course consists of one week of in-person training, during which learners design and deliver scenarios for other learners. This course is preloaded with a blended mix of interactive, high quality video, eLearning and online discussions, which learners can take part in prior to attending the in-person element of the course.
Each course will have set dates to deliver the in-person element of this course, for which all learners will be expected to be available. This course will be completed within one month of commencing.
The course is assessed through a variety of methods. Each student will have to design, develop, deliver and debrief a scenario as part of a team. Students will be assessed practically as they take on the role of exercise director and will receive written and verbal feedback based on their performance. Each students’ performance will also be assessed through a written paper which consists of a mixture of short answers and essay style questions. Finally, each student will be expected to give a theoretical presentation on a given hazardous materials subject.
